Terms of Service

These Terms govern codedreams.org, the CodeDreams builder at app.codedreams.org, published apps on codedreams.org subdomains, the AI and Learn tools, sandboxes, project storage, classes, Explore, cloud leaderboards, publishing, subscriptions, and related services (the Service). “CodeDreams,” “we,” and “us” mean the operator of the Service.

By creating an account, using the Service, or authorizing a purchase, the account holder agrees to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Refund & Cancellation Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

An account holder must be at least 13 and legally able to enter this agreement. If the account holder is under the age of majority where they live, a parent or legal guardian must approve these Terms, supervise use, and authorize every purchase.

Children under 13 do not own accounts. At home, a parent or legal guardian creates and owns the account, keeps the credentials, supervises the child, controls publishing and community settings, and is the person who completes any paid checkout. At school, a teacher creates a class and invites students; the teacher and the school are responsible for the authorization described in section 6.

The account holder decides whether CodeDreams suits each young builder and teaches them not to share personal information or secrets.

Register with accurate information and an email address you control, or with a Google account you control. Choose the right account type: a student account builds its own projects and may join classes; a teacher account runs classes and sees student work. Keep credentials confidential, do not share an account outside the household, class, or group it was made for, and tell us promptly about suspected unauthorized access.

You are responsible for activity under the account unless it results from our failure to use reasonable security. We may require email confirmation, re-authentication, payment verification, or other proportionate checks to protect an account or complete a sensitive request. Accounts and subscriptions cannot be sold or transferred.

CodeDreams lets you describe, generate, edit, preview, learn from, save, and publish web software. Each project is built in JavaScript (Next.js) or Python (Flask), chosen when it is created, and runs in an isolated cloud sandbox. Learn mode teaches a computer studies curriculum using the project's own code, in the language the project is written in.

Free accounts can create unlimited draft projects and use the AI builder for a fixed number of successful changes on each project, shown in the product before you reach it, and cannot publish. Paid plans lift that limit on every project and include a stated number of published projects; drafts do not count toward it. Plan features, allowances, and prices are shown before purchase. We may change the free allowance over time.

The Service is for personal, family, educational, and other lawful creative use. It is not a secure store for confidential records, credentials, regulated data, or irreplaceable files. Keep a separate copy of anything important.

Personal plans are recurring subscriptions billed monthly or annually through Stripe. The plan, price, currency, billing interval, published-project count, applicable taxes, and renewal terms are shown at checkout. The adult submitting payment confirms that they are the authorized account holder, parent, guardian, or cardholder.

A free account never converts to a paid one on its own. Billing starts only when an adult confirms checkout, and the subscription renews at each interval until cancelled. Cancel through the billing portal or by emailing us; cancellation stops future renewals and access normally continues to the end of the paid period. If a downgrade leaves you with more published projects than the new plan allows, we ask which to keep; the rest are unpublished, not deleted. Failed or reversed payments may limit paid features. Refund rules are in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Authorization. By creating a class and inviting students, a teacher confirms that they are employed or engaged by a school or organization that has authorized CodeDreams for those students, that any parental permission the school requires has been obtained, and that they will use student information only for teaching. A school may need a separate written agreement with us for invoicing, data-protection, or procurement terms; where one exists, it prevails over this section for that school.

Access.A class has one owner teacher and up to two co-teachers. All of them can see the roster, open and edit any project built inside the class, read students' lesson progress, set and grade assignments, and message students. Co-teachers join with a code the owner controls; keep it private, because anyone who has it gets that access. Removing a student from the roster deletes the projects they built in the class. When a class is deleted, or its subscription ends, class projects are unpublished and remain with each student as drafts.

Billing. Teacher accounts are free. A class is billed once a year, per student seat, on the graduated seat prices shown before checkout, with a minimum of three and a maximum of two hundred seats. Adding seats mid-year is charged pro rata and invoiced immediately; removing seats creates a pro-rata credit against future invoices, not a refund. Students in an active paid class, and the teachers who run it, get the paid builder experience for work in that class; students receive it as a benefit of the class and never own or manage the subscription. Pilot or promotion codes may grant a class free access for a period we specify. Schools billed by purchase order are governed by the order and cannot change their seats or plan through the self-service portal.

You keep ownership of prompts, files, images, text, and other content you provide (Your Content), subject to third-party rights and the uncertain copyright status of AI-generated material. You confirm you have the rights needed to submit and publish it. In a class, a student's content stays the student's; the teacher's licence to it is limited to teaching that class.

You grant CodeDreams a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process, transmit, adapt for technical compatibility, scan, display, and distribute Your Content only as needed to provide, secure, moderate, support, and improve the Service, comply with law, and carry out your publishing choices. The public-display part of the licence ends when content is unpublished or deleted, except for reasonable technical wind-down, backups, legal retention, and copies outside our control. Feedback may be used without restriction, and we will not identify you publicly without permission.

Publishing puts an app at a codedreams.org address anyone can open. Public apps may be copied, linked, indexed, embedded, or screenshotted. “Unlisted” only removes an app from Explore and search; it does not make the link private. Review the text, code, images, and behaviour before publishing.

Comments, likes, reports, display names, and leaderboard nicknames and scores are community features. Use nicknames, not identifying information. Leaderboard scores come from code running in players' browsers and are not certified results, even though we use rate limits, origin checks, integrity rules, and owner controls to reduce manipulation.

You must not use or help others use the Service to:

• exploit, sexualize, groom, harass, threaten, bully, impersonate, or expose personal information about a child or anyone else;
• create or distribute illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, self-harm-promoting, violent, dangerous, deceptive, or privacy-invasive content;
• collect contact details, precise location, credentials, health or payment information, or other sensitive data through a generated app without our prior written approval and all required consent;
• build chat, direct messaging, dating, gambling, payment, advertising, tracking, authentication, file-upload, or external database systems in a generated app; the platform blocks these by design;
• insert malware, steal secrets, probe other accounts, bypass authorization or safety controls, forge scores or plays, automate spam, overload systems, or interfere with the Service;
• infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights; or
• present AI output as verified professional advice or use the Service for a decision affecting someone's health, safety, legal rights, credit, employment, housing, or education.

We automatically scan prompts, generated code, files, public text, comments, and score submissions, and we may block, hold, limit, unpublish, suspend, preserve, or remove content or accounts when we reasonably believe it is necessary for child safety, security, integrity, legal compliance, or enforcement of these Terms.

Automated tools make mistakes. Report a problem or ask for review at support@codedreams.org. We do not pre-screen everything, but we respond to credible safety and legal reports in proportion to the risk.

AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, insecure, offensive, nonfunctional, or similar to existing material, and may not match a request. Our safety checks reduce but do not eliminate these risks. You must review and test a project before relying on it or publishing it, and you are responsible for the final content and its use. We do not promise that AI output is unique, copyrightable, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.

The Service depends on third-party authentication, AI, database, hosting, sandbox, deployment, payment, analytics, and email providers. Their terms govern their direct services. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control, but nothing here limits an obligation we cannot exclude by law.

CodeDreams and its licensors own the Service, brand, interfaces, curriculum, documentation, safety systems, and underlying software, excluding Your Content. Subject to these Terms, you have a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service during your access period. Do not copy, resell, sublicense, reverse engineer, scrape, or use the Service to build a competing model or service except where the law expressly allows. Report intellectual-property concerns to support with the work, the challenged content, your contact details, and a good-faith statement of authority.

You may stop using the Service, cancel a subscription, or delete the account at any time. We may restrict or suspend access immediately for a credible child-safety threat, fraud, a security incident, illegal activity, payment failure, or a serious or repeated breach, and where reasonable we will give notice and a chance to appeal.

On termination your licence to use the Service ends. Ownership, amounts owed, legal retention, disclaimers, liability limits, and dispute terms survive. Mandatory refund and data rights still apply.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation, and we do not guarantee any educational result, curriculum alignment, grade, project availability, publication uptime, AI accuracy, moderation outcome, or leaderboard integrity. Nothing here excludes a statutory warranty, consumer guarantee, or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CodeDreams is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, punitive, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, revenue, opportunity, goodwill, or data, arising from the Service. Our total liability arising from the Service will not exceed the greater of what the account holder (or, for a class, the school) paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim and CAD $100. This limit does not apply to fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or liability that cannot be limited by law.

To the extent permitted by law, an adult account holder, and a school for the teachers and classes it authorizes, will defend and indemnify CodeDreams against a third-party claim caused by their unlawful content, knowing infringement, material breach of these Terms, unauthorized commercial use, or a class run without the authorization described in section 6. This does not apply to a minor, to our own misconduct, or to the extent we caused the claim.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We will first try in good faith to resolve any dispute through support for 30 days. Subject to mandatory consumer law, proceedings may be brought in the courts located in Ontario. If you are a consumer, this does not take away mandatory rights or the ability to bring a claim where local law requires. Either party may seek urgent relief for safety, security, confidentiality, or intellectual-property harm.

These Terms and the linked policies are the whole agreement about the Service. If a provision is unenforceable it is limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest stands. A waiver must be explicit and does not waive a later breach. You may not assign this agreement without our consent; we may assign it in a merger, reorganization, financing, or sale of the Service.

We may update these Terms prospectively. Material changes get reasonable notice, and renewed agreement where the law requires it. Continued use after the effective date accepts the update to the extent the law permits.
